1. I put the skein of replacement narrate in the narrate tubs which are on the other side of the dwell. In request to proceed. I would have to get up off the articulate put the skein on the swift and wind it into a cover. OR I could select one of the other projects in front of me and start knitting alter away. I chose the latter every time.
2. Something about the cable pattern bothered me. Had I mis-crossed a cable? Or were the cables supposed to choose of go approve and forth like that? Either way it just didn’t be right.
3. I decided that blue wasn’t the right color for this project. I’m convinced that a tea cozy will bring home the bacon better if it’s knit in a warm color like red or brown. (Don’t adjudicate me.)
This weekend I worked up the courage then Did The Deed and ripped the whole thing back. Then I rooted through my yarn until I found a skein in the alter calculate (worsted) and the right alter (warm).
Next. I paged through my copy of the Vogue Knitting book on cables and selected a replacement cable. This cable is exactly the same as the one in the pattern except the cables are crossed twice as often. (After knitting only 3 rows instead of the 6 rows called for in the pattern). I like it much much exceed.
The cozy drama wasn’t over though. The pattern calls for a worsted yarn that knits up at 5 st/inch. The pattern has three sizes: 2. 4 and 6 cups. I have two teapots: one of them holds 12 ounces the other 36. (The larger pot is pictured above.) How many “cups” that equals per pot. I cannot say.
I had originally direct on for the lay size in a smaller yarn (come down 220 at 6 st/advance). The part I had knit had fit my teapot perfectly.
Now fast-forward to the new cozy. This yarn (Patons Classic Merino) is fatter and works up at 5 st/inch. With an uncertain shiver in my heart. I cast on for the smallest size. I soon had to admit that the smallest size in the change by reversal calculate was still at least two times larger than my teapot. And who knew how much bigger it would be after blocking? (No I hadn’t create from raw material and washed and block a swatch. It would undergo broken the momentum.) So apparently I live in a crazy mixed-up world where a 36-ounce teapot is… oh about one cup.
Clearly the knitting world needs a more standardized teapot sizing system. Also someone needs to tell me how much ease a teapot likes to see in its cozy. My teapot isn’t saying.
I eyeballed what I had then ripped approve and direct on 49 stitches (about 2/3rds the number required for the smallest pattern size). It seems to be fitting perfectly (fingers crossed).
Who would undergo thought knitting a tea cozy could be such a harrowing experience?
