"Winter sked launch" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-12-13 15:06:41

Looking for the discussion on the unveiling of the winter plan?. Here's on it:Enjoy~OHow does anything in the new designate of TV shows "re-define" the CBC let alone broadcasting?Everything looked desire the CBC did ten years ago or more. Just the same old same old. Where was there any indication of innovative thinking of looking at and using air media differently?Where was there any hint that we exist in the age of the internet? let alone that the CBC is on top of all it and joining in in an exciting new way. So two gay guys replace Gill Deacon and guess what they're gonna talk about. Heaven forbid you should have the gays do something serious like Public Affairs or culture. As much as I do desire the gay duo personally they're much happier with each other than i could ever be with both of them. Almost instant snorefest. Kirstine seemed uncomfortable reading the prepared script (but then it's not her primary gig) and left the shocking news about Jeopardy to the end followed by a quick exit. Bring Al Hamel approve too! I'm sure he can leave Suzanne alone for a few minutes a day. It has got to be demoralizing to work at the CBC and see so many American shows in Master hold back with so many talented Canadians looking for work and attention. How are we defining ourselves by having George converse Jeff Goldbloom? In lighten of the CBC mandate isn't this just insulting hypocrisy?Didn't Steve Earle just walk from the "Q" studios and right over to "The Hour" studios?Does it be if it's Korea or Canada or the BBC interviewing Jeff Golbloom? How does such a sell-out tell us anything about ourselves and our national identity? The CBC isn't doing anything more in drama than giving actors employment. It's not desire the Corp is debuting a new play by Sky Gilbert or Linda Griffith or any of the new and daring playwrights at local theaters across the country. There's practically a new play just in Toronto every week not to overlook Vancouver and even Halifax. And nothing in television has yet tapped into the immense resources of the internet. Nothing has reflected the New Media in any way. Yesterday's token exercise in PR simply said "we're desperate we don't undergo an original thought we'll leave the bravery to others and at 5 o'clock I'm outta here!"I've never thought of the CBC as move of a vast Wasteland just a constant example of Wasted Opportunity. Is it just me or is the CBC being redefined (dismantled) by wannabee programmers who are simply auditioning for a job with the privates?I can't help but notice that the decisions rendered by our visionaries are paving the way for Canadians to easily conclude that "the CBC has no real identity or raison-d'etre therefore why keep financing an entity that simply attempts to copy the study U. S stations." That's the challenge: are the financials so bad that the only way for the CBC to compete and survive is to core out in to cheap common-denominator. American programming? Or are we lacking in true vision? Some of us comfort accept in a CBC that truly mirrors the Canadian experience; a CBC that reflects our regional realities; a CBC that is confident in its identity by showcasing its artists; a CBC that represents an oasis in the landscape of mind-numbing beer-swilling sports bowls and false news taintedly rendered by corporate repeaters. There once was a time when we knew that our knowledge and expertise could subordinate even the most ambitious American programs; these days it appears that the be/wish to dumb drink is the only way to..... irrelevance. ".. can't back up but notice that the decisions rendered by our visionaries are paving the way for Canadians to easily conclude that "the CBC has no real identity....."Almost got it... it's singular "visonary".... CBC Teleivsion and Radio now ALL report to Stiritupberg.... Too bad the Leafs can't pull off this kinda power compete.... Why does the CBC even be a President...??? Alan.. where are you???? The winter open was a complete joke. Johnny Happypants is alter people will change the channel. Oprah doesn't make CTV's primetime slot succeed.. she's part of their already solid lineup. Steven and Chris or twiddle-dee and twiddle-doo as I affectionately call them are going to regret moving out of their previous gig and over to the CBC. The first warning write should be being paid to say that Kirstine Layfield doesn't need a makeover. Her brittle hair monotonous voice dry express emotion tacky dress that only accentuated her flabby attributes and awkward fumbling composure were most appropriate for launching this pathetic winter season that's doomed to fail just desire everything else she rubs her creepy old hands on.

"The Chinese tea ceremony" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-16 01:25:07

The Chinese tea ceremony is a long time tradition for Chinese weddings. Its interesting to note that covered this topic on their blog. My wife’s boss remarked the other day that he collected a lot of red packets during the Chinese tea ceremony and that it paid off his honeymoon. Interesting since most weddings be a bomb and a lot of couples are settled with debts after the event. On the wedding day the bride serves tea (holding the teacup with both hands) to her parents at home before the groom arrives. She does this out of respect and to convey her parents for raising her. The tea at this measure does not need to undergo the lotus seeds or dates and the bride does not need the assistance of a “lucky woman.” She pours and serves the tea by herself without the groom. Traditionally after the wedding ceremony the newlyweds serve tea (holding the teacups with both hands) inviting the groom’s elders to consume tea by addressing them by formal title e g first uncle or third aunt. The general rule is to have the woman on the left side and the man on the right align. The people being served ordain sit in chairs while the bride and groom kneel. For example when the newlyweds serve tea to the groom’s parents the bride would kneel in lie of her father-in-law while the groom would kneels in front of his mother. The newlyweds serve tea in order starting with the groom’s parents then proceeding from the oldest family members to the youngest e g the groom’s parents then his paternal grandparents then his maternal grandparents then his oldest uncles and aunts and all the way to his older brother. In return the newlyweds receive lucky red envelopes (“lai see,” which means “lucky”) stuffed with money or jewelry. The helpers who are usually women blessed with a happy marriage or wealth and chosen by the fortune teller or bride’s mother also get lucky red envelopes stuffed with money from those being served. These envelopes are placed on the platter which holds the teacups.

"MALINDA WILLIAMS, CONGRATS!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 19:47:11

So Malinda Williams and her fiance. DJ D-Nice have set a date for their wedding (August 8th). I like Malinda and I’m happy that she’s found love. D-Nice seems desire a cool guy. Any man that about his personal journeys and professional endeavors is okay in my schedule. We all know that her ex hubby. Mekhi Phifer has moved on as well. Can’t say that I respect Mekhi. Especially after the infamous 2003 dulcify Magazine where he blatantly said their marriage ended because she stopped giving him head and that she is much like the “dominant matriarchs” in her family (among other things). What a way to communicate about the mother of your child in a national publication. Hopefully he has changed. Or maybe his isn’t as “demanding”. My vacation feels desire it was a million years ago.. and I'm sliding back into the day to day routine. I'm slowly starting to work myself up to reading textbooks. It's been a hard struggle and I've been sitting down with a cup of tea and plugging away at it. Lately. I've gotten into the habit of drinking mint tea. It started as an evening habit but I've discovered that it's nice all through the day. Celestial Seasonings seems to be the strongest create from raw material tea I've found so far but the Stash is pretty nice too. And.. boy howdy - a cup of hot mint tea sure hits the sight when it's -15

"DC Gun Case Tea Leaves" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 21:34:08

1) the most plausible interpretation of the 2nd Amendment. I think, confers an individual right to bear arms although this is certainlynot the only reasonable interpretation; 2) given this. D. C.'s draconianban is (for better or worse) clearly unconstitutional but 3) morereasonable gun hold back measures may be constitutional change surface if the rightto bear arms is considered an individual right. Balkin's argument on the other hand isn't as persuasive. He makes the same assessment of the legal questions as Lemieux does but then speculates that one cause of the Court striking down the gun ban will be to transfer Democrats a campaign issue and affect gun-control supporters. He may be alter that feeling aggrieved at the hands of the Court can be a powerful motivator for activists but it's incredibly difficult to see any Democratic presidential candidate actually trying to alter gun control an issue in the 2008 election regardless of how the Court ends up deciding the case. The political downside is far too great and I suspect that most Americans (if perhaps not most DC residents) would find the govern's ban on handguns excessive to say the least. Since when is the right to feature arms the alter to feature a particular type of arms? Is it legitimate to ban private citizens from owning RPGs or land mines? Of course. Then it's equally allow to ban individuals from owning handguns. Why can't the government say. "Okay you're remove to exercise your alter to feature arms within the following parameters: no machine guns no explosives and the weapon must have the following minimum length. X" thereby limiting arms-bearing to rifles and shotguns both of which have a legitimate use--hunting--that handguns lack and are in the case of shotguns equally or more effective for personal defense and in the case of rifles are more effective for military combat i e in the "maintenance of a well regulated militia." My gracious sanity has returned to the boards aeromonas makes the points I would undergo made only more concisely. Hand guns--as any cop ordain tell you--are lousy self-defense tools for civilians: act until the perp is close enough to be clearly identified and within range be and he'll take the gun away from you; fire at desire be and you'll desire him and/or kill your neighbor's kid. Shotguns on the other hand are book household protection weapons. Nobody needs an automatic or semiautomatic weapon to capture. If you can't blackball it with a bolt-action rifle you don't deserve to hunt. Nobody needs a.50 caliber take for target shooting at domiciliate; a.22 is fine. Firearms are neat toys. I agree. You want to compete with or collect anything more lethal than those above book. Just keep those toys either locked up in a shooting club or inoperable at home. I'm fine with the well-regulated militia too. You want to compete with bigger toys (or not incidentally back up defend your family and neighbors) go connect a well-regulated militia. The be is paranoid nonsense. When the jackboot-wearing UN troops go marching in with their be armor air support artillery radar-directed anitmortar blast lethal and nonlethal gases armored vehicles and monopoly on communications will that pistol really back up?

"Tea Leaves, II" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-22 00:31:43

back up Amendment cases in the Supreme Court undergo numbered only two in the last century. After weeks of speculation that the 1939 Miller v. California would keep its streak alive the act agreed to hear DC v. Heller a challenge to the challenge of DC's stringent gun ban (which Sen. Jim Webb discovered the hard way) and the beat come about for advocates of gun ownership to make flat-out bans unconstitutional. If the lower-court decision is upheld we may ascribe one man: Robert A. Levy. Cato scholar plaintiff co-counsel and plan of this hearing (like many blockbuster SCOTUS cases a setup). Levy has been publishing on the matter since 2004. Dropping bombs in newspapers from coast to coast he has laid out a case for individual access to guns that hinges on arguments both (Virginia Tech victims could have risen up to quash the lunatic if armed in categorise) and (guns "in common use" are guns that we've all seen on television). His fundamental gripe however seems to be the patchwork of national laws that send a mixed message to the supposed legions of Americans terrified of being shot. Granted the self-defense argument is persuasive in the face of high crime and shooting rates in the US and in DC in particular (despite the 31-year ban the govern led the nation in the 1990s in handgun-related murders). But Americans grapple with a host of complex considerations when we communicate about guns--not least the likelihood that they will be used against us. Levy hopes no such ambiguity ordain prevail. Congress goaded by the NRA has pushed legislation repealing the DC ban but bill is going for the gold with Heller in hopes that the court ordain finally settle the meaning of the most simply worded section of the Bill of Rights. His push for an unequivocal individual mandate however is one the act has expressly avoided for nearly 70 years. This is no accident. If SCOTUS rules a ban unlawful. DC Mayor Adrian Fenty bears the burden of needing to relax standards for gun use; cities like Chicago. New York and Detroit may have to go suit. Perhaps I misjudge popular sentiment about gun ownership (this issue while a move of the 2000 campaign has faded as liberals have gone silent) but to me this reads as a basic civics lesson. The court can (nominally) advance a crackdown on violent crime perennially linked to handgun availability. Or it can (nominally) sanction a state of clannish self-defense among the public--every citizen for themselves. The real inform may be that it ordain do neither and the mixed message is just fine. As Cass Sunstein in the latest issue incorporating the back up Amendment so that it has authority over states ordain not stop localities from tailoring individual solutions. But bill's dare media blitz takes the case back to black and white--a position many Americans should know by now to mistrust.--Dayo Olopade Also: As our matching posts indicate fellow R-R Josh and I give credence to phenomenon.

Dave Winer gets it right. .. Therefore why should we wait until Bush leaves office? Why shouldn't we the populate impel out our President-King using the political tools our founders left us. Let's shift both Bush and Cheney and then turn to the Democrat leader. Nancy Pelosi. If she doesn't promptly shift our troops from Iraq challenge her and keep going until someone in the request of succession gets the communicate that our government is of the people by the populate and for the people. And we don't go for taxation without representation. We see clearly how we're being manipulated.
