"Coffee Mug: Polarized Lighting" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-11 22:14:06

This is another experiment in lighting a this time using polarized light. Strobist: this shot uses dark-field lighting and cross-polarized lighten. (The dark-field technique is described in "lighten Science & Magic" one of the essentials on the.)The mug is on black acrylic in front of a 6-inch square of color mat board. Behind that is a large white fabric diffusion panel illuminated from behind by a radiate at beat cater. Another flash is about 30 degrees alter of the camera and slightly above camera aim pointing at the mug. It flashes through a piece of polarizing material. On the camera lens is another polarizer. The polarizers were adjusted using a 150-watt bulb stand-in for the radiate the idea being to reduce specular highlights without totally extinguishing the rest of the lighten. Two observations: 1) cross-polarizing eats light. I blasted both 283's at beat cater at ISO 400 and f/8 to get a reasonable shot. 2) Polarizing does odd things to the subject's alter and qualities at least for this write of affect. Depending on your objectives this may be good or bad. Learn how to lighten at.

"Cup of flowers" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-05 18:45:12

Zinnias calendula and cosmos randomly selected snipped bunco and stuck in a coffee mug… Who can elude? There’s more time in September days to…consider begin going over what worked out and what didn’t during the year. Like flowers. I dunno why I’ve put them second to veggies. Maybe it was my annoying experience with gladiolas in Year 1 three or four hundred all flowering at once with no time to cut ‘em all and nowhere for them to go (the farmers’ merchandise is full of flowers!). And then digging up and separating and storing the corms… It seemed like a total distraction from the veggies. No advance develop action until the tiny largely ignored this year when I finally tried more variety and the obvious was revealed to me: cut flowers are a bona fide move of any self-respecting merchandise garden (at least of this one!). Harvesting even a ragged fistful of flowers is another simple profound pleasure I shouldn’t be missing. Here’s to next year…! Bookmark:These icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages. I love your communicate–I’m a develop farmer in Michigan looking to grow into more vegetables next year with an eye toward a CSA once my small children grow up. Anyhow. I highly recommend zinnias cosmos multi-branching sunflowers dill and basil bouquets. I also throw in yarrow snapdragons black-eyed susans and a few other things as they come into develop. But populate really really like them and BG zinnias are so easy to grow. Hey Jill: Yeah zinnias cosmos and all the sunflowers including the branching ones worked out great in my under-tended flower plan. I’ll do ‘em again. Gypsophilia seemed to do well on their own also calendula. I’ll be into your suggestions for next year—this measure around I tried only what I could direct disgorge around the beginning of June. If you’re going into limited veggies to go away out with you might consider specializing in salad mix desire true mesclun with lettuce and lots of other greens. You can get really creative making up blends also growing hot defy alternatives like mixes of do by chard beet greens and so forth. Keeping it all balanced so there’s a steady give sounds desire the write of growing that might fit well with flowers!
