"Developing Use Case Alternative Flows of Events" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 16:07:17

When you find an alternative to a use case basic flow you undergo two different ways to handle it. One way is to put the alternative in the steps of the basic flow. That way of handling alternatives was described in a previous tip. Another way to command alternatives is to make a new divide of your use case document for alternative flows. This divide generally comes after the basic move in your document. You create verbally the basic flow to show the most common way of doing the use case and the alternative flows list the other ways of doing the same use case. I start by making a enumerate of alternatives using names and possibly brief descriptions. Let us assume we are working on a use inspect for a customer to displace an Order. While writing the basic move we assume that the most common create of payment will be ascribe card so we create verbally the basic flow showing that the customer is paying by credit separate. I enumerate the alter forms of payment in the Alternative Flows section. Here is the example: 1. The use case begins when the customer selects displace Order in the order processing software. 2. The request processing software displays an order create to the customer. 3. The customer enters his or her name and communicate into the order form. 4. As desire as the customer enters products repeat these steps: 5. The customer enters a product code into the order form. 6. The order create displays a description and price for the product to the customer. 7. The request form adds the price to the order total. 8. The customer selects the credit card payment type on the order create. 9. The order form displays fields for the cardholder label card number expiration go out and verification code. 10. The customer enters credit separate payment information into the order create. 11. The customer selects the refer button on the request form. 12. The request form sends the information entered by the customer to the order processing software. 13. The order processing software verifies the information from the request form. 14. The request processing software saves the order as pending in the database. 15. The request processing software forwards ascribe separate payment information to the accounting system. 16. The accounting system sends a confirmation to the order processing software. 17. The request processing software marks the order confirmed in the database. 18. The request processing software displays an order ID to the customer and the use case ends. Alternative Flows of Events =========================== Customer Pays by Check or money request Customer Pays by PayPal Customer Pays by change Customer Pays by some other method Now at some point in measure. I ordain be to add detail to the alternatives to describe how each alternative will work in my system. One way to do this is to copy the basic flow of events and dress the steps that are different. I prefer the back up come which is to just enumerate the changed steps. Below are the detailed alternatives for the use case. I am showing a couple of different approaches to writing the alternatives in the following examples. Alternative 1: Customer Pays by Check or money order ===================================== In the Basic Flow of Events replace steps 8-10 with the following: 8. The customer selects the PayPal payment write on the request form. 9. The request form sends the order total and the affiliate PayPal be name to the PayPal site. 10. The PayPal site displays a payment form to the customer. 11. The customer enters his or her PayPal payment information into the PayPal place. 12. The PayPal site sends the payment information to the request create. Customer Pays by some other method ================================== This is an error. We only accept payment by credit separate check money order or Paypal. My basic rule for handling alternatives is this: If the alternative is short just 1 or 2 steps then put the alternative inline to the Basic Flow of Events as described in a previous tip. If the alternative is longer then alter a displace alternative move of events. Geri Schneider Winters has been a instruct and consultant to companies from Fortune 50 to startups. With the creation of the Overture and Google Adwords systems many webmasters believed they had finally hit the mother lode. It was no longer necessary for small online businesses to invest large amounts of money into Search Engine Optimization (SEO) services to obtain high search rankings in the natural examine results. Even webmasters committed to SEO campaigns began to realize its fleeting nature. Given frequent examine engine algorithm changes optimizing a website was no pledge that in 6 months or less it wouldn't be back to form one and page twenty of the examine results. PAY-PER-CLICK SEARCH ENGINE (PPCSE) PLACEMENTWith the advent of the PPCSE model created by Overture and followed by Google Adwords webmasters entangle like they had finally open the aim playing field that everyone talks about. Hiring a SEO affiliate was no longer necessary to crack the top examine engine results. A Page One placement could be purchased and often for far less than the cost of a SEO company's services. Webmasters discovered that they could get merchandise to their website for as little as one cent per move. Pay-per-click however has evolved over the measure 5 years and not to the benefit of most webmasters. Although five cents is currently the average starting bid determine at most major search engines many sought after keyword terms can cost as much as $30 - $50 per click. Given the increasingly competitive nature of PPC advertising and spiralling costs many small- to medium- sized businesses today might be better served hiring a good SEO company to examine hone their websites. WHO IS CLICKING YOUR PAY-PER-CLICK LINKS?There are four types of populate who move on pay-per-click ads. Knowing who these populate are helps explain why experts act telling us that 20% to 25% of all clicks on PPC listings are "fraudulent clicks". Personality Type #1: True-Blue ProspectsThese are the people for whom you undergo placed your pay-per-click ads. They see your advertisement; they like what they see; and they move your link to see if you can actually serve their needs. Personality write #2: Accidental ClickersEvery once in a while even my touch misfires and I click an advertisement that I did not intend on clicking. My first thought is usually. "Oh no..." and my first action is to find the back add. I didn't mean to be that person money by clicking his advertisement.. but I did. It was an accident. Now the advertiser has to pay for my mistake. That bites. Personality write #3: Jealous CompetitorsI would like to think that all of my and your competitors are fine upstanding people. And most of them are. But there are some who are not and they click on pay-per-click links just to be spiteful or just to cost their business rivals a few dollars. accept it or not a good percentage of "fraudulent clicks" are believed to be clicks perpetrated by people against their competitors. Personality Type #4: True-Blue FraudstersNot that long ago pay-per-click providers realized that there was tremendous opportunity in offering small website owners a method for cashing in on their limited traffic. Today a webmaster can go to any number of pay-per-click services add a small conjoin of code to a webpage and go away serving paid advertising the same day. Webmasters thus become revenue overlap partners with the PPC provider splitting revenues with the PPC provider for each click. Ethical webmasters of cover put the needs of their advertisers first and cerebrate on putting eyeballs on their website so that visitors can move on the advertising links. But the word "ethical" doesn't exist in the vocabulary of some webmasters. These are the "true-blue fraudsters" who believe in making "revenue at any be.. no be who might be hurt by their actions." They create by mental act schemes to have their own ads clicked in request to drive up their revenue share. These webmasters although a minority are responsible for the vast majority of fraudulent clicks. And they are the same populate that should be taken out behind the barn for a good old-fashioned flogging --- one lashing for each stolen dollar would be fine with me. THE UNSEEN COSTS OF THE PAY-PER-CLICK examine GAMEIf the experts are correct in estimating that 25% of all clicks are fraudulent then you are paying out 33% more than you should have to pay to get your business. If you are converting PPCSE clicks-to-sales at a rate of $20 per transaction then you should be aware that your actual conversion rate for non-PPCSE advertising would cost you an average of $15 per transaction. By escaping the pay-per-click examine engine model you could in effect alter an additional $5 per transaction by cutting the fraud out of your marketing calculate. Personally. I would rather not pay the pay-per-click mafia the $5 a transaction that they are exacting against pay-per-click advertisers. WHERE MY ADVERTISING MONEY WORKS BESTI have always gained the best bang for my endeavor with pay-for-placement advertising. In a nutshell. I pay a monthly quarterly or yearly fee to undergo my advertising seen on various websites. Banner advertising is always an option but text links provide better click-through rates (CTR's). And yet when we advertise our online businesses we be to be willing to let PPCSE providers steal 25% of our advertising calculate? It boggles the mind. Personally. "Midland: Starbucks Alternatives: Espresso Milano Beats the Frappuccino" posted by ~Ray

We didn’t think it existed but turns out there is a place Starbucks hasn’t touched: Midland. Michigan. And while the small Midwest town of 60,000 doesn’t offer unlimited alternatives it does offer a great one: . The downtown coffee shop opened 10 years ago well before the latte boom and it’s been serving its signature blends ever since. The décor has changed a handful of times but the massive chalkboard of offerings and local artist exhibits undergo remained a constant. On frosty pass mornings we prefer the Six Shooter: six espresso shots. Prefer something sweeter? Try a Milkyway: the standard latte with caramel vanilla syrup and a dusting of cocoa powder too. But on hot summer days the Hazelkadoodle is a must. Espresso Milano’s baristas amalgamate coffee ice cream espresso hazelnut and vanilla syrup together for a frosty treat that beats the Frappuccino hands down.

"Absence of Alternatives?" posted by ~Ray

…clears the object marvelously! I construe this quote recently and couldn’t back up marveling how true it was. Just imagine how simple would life be without alternatives. One hit unwavering path is set and you need to blindly and dumbly go that. (Somehow that came off sounded more handicapped than I meant it to…) On entering the food court (calling it a canteen would be an offense of sorts) – I’m immediately presented with a choice of outlets where one can conform to their gastronomic cravings – there’s Subway. Dominoes. Coffee Day…then we undergo 4 other local ‘thali’ vendors…the diet counters…the list goes on. My rumbling digest signals my brain that the line is shortest at ‘Subway’ and I alter a beeline for that answer. Soon enough it’s my move and it’s just in measure. I guess I’m cribbing too much. What would life be without choices? Take cars for instance process about a few years back people had to be circumscribe with the ubiquitous family Fiat or the sarkari Ambassador. Now with the opened economy consumers like us have a plethora of options to choose from. At the end of the day it’s all to do with enriching our lives… and all that. Lol! How true! U know. I was just gonna blog 'bout the plethora of options I'm supposed to decide from for my laminates... There's beech (bursa light precious galoway intal bavarian mangfal...) there's maple (halifax alberta vancouver like...) there's hanker (cardoba laredo color coffee cream...) & on & on... Phew! I'm sitting with this 100-page schedule staring at these tiny create squares of various colours textures & designs. Wondering what's exceed.. endless options or absence of alternatives... :)BTW arouse u stole my topic :P :)
